The One Step Midstream Style FSH Urine Test is a test kit for the determination of the concentration of FSH (Human Follicular Stimulating Hormone) in urine samples. Test results are read visually without any instrument.
Summary and explanation
Follicle stimulating hormone is a glycoprotein hormone that weighs approximately 30,000 Da. It is composed of two polypeptide chains: the alpha and beta subunits. In response to gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) produced by the hypothalamus, basophilic cells of the anterior pituitary secrete FSH and luteinizing hormone (LH).
Both hormones control the development and maintenance of the gonads. FSH controls the development of ovarian follicles in females and spermatogenesis in males. Both LH and FSH act with a negative feedback effect on the hypothalamus, thus regulating the circulatory levels of both hormones. As a woman approaches perimenopause, the number of small antral follicles recruited in each cycle decreases and consequently insufficient Inhibin B is produced to fully reduce FSH and the serum FSH level begins to rise.
