Expected use
Typhoid IgG / IgM is a simple and rapid laboratory test, which can simultaneously detect and differentiate IgG and IgM antibodies against S. typhi (not against S. paratyphi species) in whole blood with high precision.
Summary and explanation
Salmonella typhi (S. typhi) is a gram-negative bacterium and is the causative agent of typhoid fever, a characteristic severe septic disease found exclusively in humans. Each year, there are an estimated 16.6 million new infections and 600,000 associated deaths. Typhoid fever can be diagnosed by isolating S. typhi from blood, urine, or stool, but this method requires laboratory equipment, technical training, and time-consuming procedures. The Widal test is used for the serodiagnosis of typhoid fever, but it also has many limitations of interpretation.
