Expected use

The TORCH test panel is a qualitative lateral flow rapid test designed for the qualitative detection of IgG antibodies against the following viruses: • Toxoplasma gondii (Toxoplasmosis) (TOXO); • Cytomegalovirus (CMV); • rubella virus (RV); • Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1); • Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).

Summary and explanation

The TORCH IgG One-Step Rapid Test is an immunochromatographic assay, based on the principle of the Gold Immunochromatography Assay (GICA). The recombinant antigens of the five viruses and the anti-human IgG antibodies of the five viruses are used respectively to detect the specific antibodies in human serum or urine samples. When the samples are added to the sample wells in the test panel, the antibody, for example, the TOXO IgG antibody, will react with the human anti-TOXO IgG antibody on the membrane strip and complexes will arise.

These complexes are moved chromatographically along the membrane strip to the test region (T), where these complexes will be captured by the precoated recombinant TOXO antigen. A red or pink line will then appear, indicating a positive result. The boundless complex passes into the control region (C), where they are captured by the anti-mouse antibody, and a red line will appear, indicating that the assay is valid. The control line then provides an internal quality control mechanism. The test principle for the other four antibodies is the same as for the TOXO IgM test. The intensity of the color is in accordance with the concentration of the respective antibody against the related TORCH virus in the samples.
